Many people today say, “I am saved,” but if you ask them what that means and what they are saved from, few, in my experience, could answer that question. “Save yourselves!” Peter proclaimed on the day the church was birthed in the power of the Holy Spirit, as multitudes watched in amazement. He declared, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the Holy Spirit.” Could it be that many who struggle to receive the “gift” of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit have not taken the first step Peter proclaims, which is to “Repent”? Saved from what? By whom? Is hell real? Who is going there, and do we need to save them?
