Pierced! The Kindness, Sternness, Justice, Mercy and Love of our Awesome God

He ran into a man’s house with his spear and drove it through the man’s back and into the belly of the woman he was committing adultery with killing them both.  No, this is not a movie, this is exactly what happened when Phinehas saw that one of the men of Israel was committing sin in the presence of God’s people when God had just cleared the camp of all who did such a thing.  And God approved?  Yes.  It is because our sin is that sinful.  It is utterly sinful as Paul writes to the church of Romans when speaking of what the law reveals to us all.  Could you imagine Phinehas running with his spear ready to kill the man and the woman and Jesus blocking him and allowing the spear to be driving into his body in place of the two in adultery?  And God approved?  Yes.  This teaching speaks about that very reality of what Jesus did for us in his life, death, burial and resurrection.  He was pierced not for His sin, for He never sinned, but he was pierced in our place because of our sin.  Find out how powerfully loving, merciful and just our God is as He served our justice on His Son and how loving Jesus is for offering up His life in our place.  You’ll never see Easter resurrection the same again.
