President Obama and Vladimir Putin in Agreement to put Golan Heights on the Chopping Block? Israel’s Prime Minister says Golan Heights will Remain in Israel’s Hands
Israel is once again the focus of news by the international community. This time, the discussion is the northern area of Israel, the Golan Heights. Since the Six Day War in 1967, The Golan Heights has been under the control of Israel. Today, some are seeking to change all of that and move the control of The Golan Heights under Syrian control.
In response, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, held a special cabinet meeting in The Golan Heights to address the issue. The Prime Minister was very direct and clear in his statements regarding the topic. “I chose to hold this festive Cabinet meeting on the Golan Heights in order to deliver a clear message: The Golan Heights will forever remain in Israel’s hands. Israel will never come down from the Golan Heights.” He continued to share two points that must be understood, “First, whatever happens beyond the border, the (Golan) line is not going to change. Second, it is about time, fifty years later, that the international community will finally face the fact that the Golan Heights will forever remain in Israel’s hands.”
When we look over the past months and years of the mainstream media’s topics we can see a continual rotation of Israel being in and out of the media’s attention. Israel may be out of the headlines for a season, but it isn’t long before someone is once again attacking or accusing Israel on a certain topic. When Israel isn’t being talked about, could it be that some are strategizing against Israel? Israel is constantly on the defense. They cannot afford to let their defenses down.
According to Haaretz, President Obama doesn’t consider the Golan Heights to be part of Israel. It matters how we are touching Israel. While President Obama has made many statements about a diverse range of topics, why do his statements towards Israel appear to be much more direct and uncompromising when compared to other topics? The truth of the matter is this; giving up the Golan Heights would make Israel vulnerable.
This topic of surrendering The Golan Heights is not a new topic. As Maj. Gen. (ret) Giora Eiland shares, it has already been discussed once before. The military has entertained this idea as a possibility. Eiland reiterates how former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak, concluded the issue. When this question was addressed, “Can Israel defend itself without the Golan Heights; yes or no? And the answer that we gave, but also Ehud Barak gave was, “No. Israel cannot defend itself without the Golan Heights.”
When we look out over the last few years of topics regarding Israel, there has been a continual conversation about dividing Israel. It is important to remember when President Obama made the statement regarding the exact time frame that American troops would be withdrawn from Iraq. Why was this statement made with such clarity for all of our enemies to hear? As we fast forward through the events within the Middle East, we can remember the vacuum in the Middle East created by the lack of American troops, these strongholds now taken over by ISIS, ISIS spreading to the West, taking over Raqqa, and now spreading throughout Syria. It is important to note that Syria is just one of Israel’s neighbors to the East. This conflict that was once within Iraq, is now inching closer to Israel’s doorstep. God sees everything. God’s will will always prevail. With all of this being taken into consideration, it is important to ask, why President Obama is in agreement with Russia’s Vladimir Putin regarding this most recent discussion regarding The Golan Heights?
It appears that the International Community is never shy about their comments to degrade and criticize the existence of Israel. When looking at the United Nations, we can see a gross injustice towards the matters held within its chambers. Anne Bayefsky, recently spoke regarding the topic of Israel and The United Nations. Some of the points that she shares are simply staggering. For starters, “38% of all the U.N. Human Rights Council resolutions… that are critical of specific countries, have been directed at Israel alone.” This comes amidst the comparison of other events within countries such as Iran, China, and North Korea. Bayefsky continues to share how each regular session of The United Nations is governed by a permanent agenda. “This agenda is composed of ten items, one of which is always reserved for criticizing Israel”. The question of why the United Nations continues to clearly act against Israel remains unanswered.
The eyes of our attention must not waiver from Israel. We must remain vigilant and focus our prayers upon Israel and the State of Israel.
