Chris Pratt, a current actor, was awarded the MTV Generation Award! It is so exciting to see what he has to say to this generation and how he expresses the importance of having God in your life. Chris was on the Jimmy Fallon Show and talks about the award that he was told he would receive. “It is basically saying, alright Chris; you have permission to say a minute worth of wisdom to the new generation…I think we need people to step up and share some positive light on this young new amazing generation.” He took this award very seriously, and we hear him share the wisdom with this new generation. We see the Arts and Entertainment mountain and the Faith mountain colliding!
Chris gives “Nine Rules from Chris Pratt” at the MTV Generation Awards. The rules are, “Number one breathe, if you don’t you will suffocate. Number two, you have a soul. Be careful with it. Number three, don’t be a turd (don’t be mean/a bully) if you’re strong be a protector; if you’re smart be a humble influencer…Number four, when giving a dog medicine, put the medicine in a piece of hamburger, they won’t know what it is. Number five doesn’t matter what it is earn it. Number six, God is real, God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that, I do. (We left out number seven due to the content.) Number eight, learn to pray. Number nine, nobody is perfect…you are imperfect. You always will be but there is a powerful Force that designed you that way and if you’re willing to accept that you will have grace. And grace is a gift, and like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for by somebody else’s blood. Do not forget it. Don’t take it for granted.” It is so powerful the way he presented the Gospel. We are going to break down what he said and show you the scripture that lines up with what Chris shared.
We will break down just a few of Chris Pratt’s rules. Talking about the number two rule, “you have a soul, be careful with it.” We have a soul! That is a difference between us and artificial intelligence or a robot. “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (ESV)” We are a not just a body but a spirit that has a body, which possesses a soul. Your soul is what you think, what you want, and what you feel. Rule 5, “doesn’t matter what it is earn it.” Do a good deed, serve someone; this is good for your soul. It makes you feel good! If you are feeling sad or depressed, try doing something for someone else. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” God has created us to be able to go out and help someone in a time of need. We can sometimes grow weary of doing good things but don’t give up! We are the light of the world. “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” We can be tempted to throw away our confidence or just to give up but no matter what you feel like do something good. Chris continues with rule six, “God is real, God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that, I do.” This is written about in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” God who created us loves us and sent His Son to pay for our sins.
