Church Security in light of Recent South Carolina Church Massacre

For those who are not former law enforcement, military or defense, when trouble arises, people think about dialing 911. As we consider the travesties that occurred in Charleston’s AME Church, where 9 people were murdered, the issue of security for the Church is a growing concern. As the Church, we have to look out for one another and for our communities. When a Bible Study was being held at the AME Church in Charleston, SC, It is being reported that Dylann Storm Roof entered and sat down amongst those already present for an hour before beginning his actions of killing 9 people. Our hearts go out to those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones

When a gathering of support for Israel took place with Christians United for Israel at Cornerstone Church, services were interrupted after repeated protestors stood up, one after another, shouting and yelling. What if these protestors had the same intentions as what occurred in South Carolina? We need to rethink security and how we are doing Church. In the Acts 20:28-29, Paul admonished “I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number…” What is our methodology of gathering? By looking at a few techniques and methodologies of how some are providing security, we can see a visual of what some available options are. When gatherings are in the thousands, from 5,000 to 30,000 present during one meeting, security is surely a priority. But, when the average Church gathering is less than 100 people, the resources may not be available to everyone.
Be empowered to move in wisdom for future gatherings and a Biblical perspective of how the Church gathered and came together in the Book of Acts. By moving as the original disciples and Apostles moved and operated we can see a powerful reality in what is best to trust in for these situations. Hear the full story, see the visual realities of what can take place when security is not in place, how some are providing security, and so much more. Greg and John shared in this segment.
