Remembering Christ in CHRISTMAS

by

LISTEN NOW! As many are seeing and voicing the witnessing of what appears to be a ‘war against Christmas’, there are many encouraging realities that are taking place throughout this season reminding us what it’s all about. A McDonald’s in Tennessee is continuing their own family tradition of hiring local artists to decorate their family owned businesses, just in time for Christmas. It’s the design that is causing the attention of many to share the encouragement; a manger scene with the words, ‘His Name is Jesus’ and ‘Rejoice’ can be seen across an entire side of the building along with the focal point of the Nativity Scene, the birth of Jesus, being front and center.

Not only is this encouragement affecting those in the local city of Spring Hill, TN; but it has nearly gone viral when it was shared on social media. This was not the only Christmas cheer shared on the internet. A new hashtag is gaining momentum; “#JesusIsTheSubject”is reminding many what Christmas is all about.

As the Christmas Cheer is echoing about for many, so are the Christmas Carols. Often times, we unsuspectingly carry about the traditions in our familiarity without a real understanding of what exactly it is that we’re doing. In the sense of Christmas Carols, we can miss the very meaning of some of the most favorite. Take for instance Silent Night. The lyrics of this read:

Silent night, holy night,
all is calm, all is bright
round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy infant, so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace,
sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
shepherds quake at the sight;
glories stream from heaven afar,
heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

This is just one of the many Carols that many are singing in this season of celebrating Christmas. Others to note are O Come, O Come Emmanuel and Joy to the World. These are the very songs that are remembering the birth of Jesus Christ. It is these words of worship that are being lifted up to celebrate the true Gift that God gave each of us.

This Christmas, allow the Holy Spirit to remind you what this season is all about: Jesus Christ. As we spend time with our families and the ones that we love, may our focus be upon God’s Presence and not just the presents. Allow gratitude to well up inside you as you’re reminded about these simple truths from a humble young man, as well as the reminder of the Christmas Story, with a modern twist, and so much more. Also shared in this segment: Twitter, McDonalds, The Nativity Story, Bethel Church, Jesus is the Reason for the Season, gratitude, family, and Jesus. John and Steve shared in this segment.
