“Americans have officially lost our … minds!“ says Pastor Perry Noble; Over 300,000 People Sign Petition AGAINST the PARENTS because a Gorilla that was shot dead to save a 3-year old’s life at Cincinnati Zoo- What is the Biblical Perspective?
Can you imagine taking your family to visit the sights and sounds of the local zoo and your 3-year-old son climbs past the guard rail and falls into the area of the gorilla exhibit? This is exactly what happened to a Cincinnati family as they visited the Cincinnati Zoo’s gorilla exhibit. As crowds of people stand helplessly wondering what the gorilla is going to do, the mother’s voice can be heard shouting, “mommy’s right here!” As the gorilla stands over the helpless child, he then grabs onto the child’s foot and drags him through the water. Unknown of what the gorilla would do next, employees at the zoo shot and killed the animal in order to save the life of the child.
When the discussion of tranquilizers was presented, it was decided to not use a tranquilizer considering how long it would take to have an effect on the animal. It is a miracle that the child survived. As a result, people are protesting. Thousands are protesting against the killing of the animal and “want the child’s parents to be held accountable.” There have been plenty of topics to cause massive protesting: the 50 million children aborted in the womb since the passing of Roe V Wade in 1973, and the recent discoveries happening within Planned Parenthood would be a good start. But, the killing of a single gorilla?
Pastor Perry Noble responds to the topic by expressing his own thoughts regarding the matter. When looking at the choice to save the child over the life of the animal and the 300,000 petition signatures wanting police to investigate the parents, Noble responds; “It’s simple – hypocrisy!” Noble then continues to ask a series of applicable and valid questions:
I wonder if the same 300,000 people have been equally bothered by Christians being beheaded/tortured in the Middle East?
I wonder if the same 300,000 people were as upset when all of the dirt was exposed on planned parenthood?
I wonder if the same 300,000 people were as upset when Dr. Kermitt Gosnell murdered a child after a botched abortion?
Although, it does, in fact, matter how we respond to animals. Often times, the people who end up hurting people, started out hurting animals. When Evangelist Billy Graham was asked about the topic, he had these words to share. “…the Bible commands us to take care of the animals under our care. One of the signs of a righteous man, the Bible says, is that he takes care of his animals.” Graham continues to share, “the Bible says we must never treat any part of God’s creation with contempt. When we do, we are indirectly treating our Creator with contempt. Instead, God calls us to be stewards or trustees of His creation, and the Bible reminds us that we are responsible to Him for the way we treat it.”
Greg has a special love for animals, as he is a dog owner. Although, he wasn’t always a dog owner. After enduring a stressful season in the ministry, he reached a point that he thought he just couldn’t continue any further. Sometimes you just get so beat down and tired, it’s as if you need to be saved again. While on a particular trip to Rome, Georgia, he visited Dream Mountain at Berry College. It was during his trek up the mountain that he was crying out to God with every step that he had. All he could get out was “Rescue Me”. If God didn’t rescue him, he wasn’t going to make it.
Upon reaching the top of the mountain, he came to a wooden bench and just sat down, exhausted and worn out. Suddenly, two dogs came running straight towards him. One was carrying a pine cone and they were adamant about playing catch with Greg. It was during this encounter that God spoke to him, “you’re going to have to learn to play and enjoy things”. And he did.
After walking down off the mountain, he received a dream from the Lord. In this dream, Greg had an animal that was playing with him in his backyard and was just as agile and playful. Only, it wasn’t a dog. It was a cow. He knew what it meant. It was time to get a dog.
Greg’s son-in-law informed him of a local rescue that rescues German Shepherds. After serving years in law enforcement, he had a special love and appreciation for German Shepherds. After visiting this rescue, he was introduced to a 9-month old puppy. Sitting there in this cage, with this little furry animal, there was an instant bond. They were both rescues. God was rescuing Greg and Greg was rescuing Max. Sometimes, when we just don’t have the ability to love again, all of us, need rescuing again.
Greg and Max still have opportunities to spend time together, travelling down to downtown Pensacola and enjoying the scenery. Truth is, God wants us to take care of animals, but we don’t exalt animals over human beings. We are grateful for the life of the gorilla and we are grateful for the child that lived.
