But, they may not know of his extensive medical career and accomplishments. While Vice President Mike Pence issued Dr. Carson’s Oath for the Secretary for the Department for Housing and Urban Development, he made it a priority to address Dr. Carson’s many accomplishments.

Dr. Carson’s life didn’t start with success. He grew up in the inner-city of Detroit. As Vice President Pence describes, “Dr. Carson, you saw firsthand how too many Americans can be trapped in poverty and in despair, in communities that are crumbling, families fracturing, and their hope for a brighter future fading.” Vice President Pence describes Dr. Carson’s life as a “quintessentially American story”. It is this life experience that gives Dr. Carson an inside perspective of the impacts that HUD provides to many Americans, and will assist him in carrying out this leadership role with excellence.
