Believers Should be Known for Forgiveness, but Are We? Charles Simpson

In our present culture, the sides that are being presented ultimately come down to only two. Regardless of what one may say or perceive things to be, there are truly only two sides to choose from. These can be found in words from Jesus in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” When Charles Simpson recently sat down with VFNtv, he talked about the importance of us recognizing what will ultimately happen when we do choose.

“When you choose your side, you’ve also chosen your opposition; and it’s unfortunate because we don’t think about it…there are a lot of people who will say, ‘now it’s time for me to take you down because I don’t believe in that,’ and that’s happening.” This is the sobering truth that brings Simpson much heartache. As he continues, “the thing that grieves me is that it’s so often Christians doing it to Christians.” Simpson openly asks the question, “whatever happened to the verse that says, ‘if you have odd against your brother, go to him’? That verse might as well be eliminated in the Bible.” These are the very words of Jesus emphasizing the importance of our relationships with one another before we boast assuming our relationship with Him. In the parable of the Unforgiving Servant, Jesus spoke plainly in Matthew 18: 34-35 and revealed what would happen to those who choose not to forgive. “And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.” We cannot overlook the importance of forgiveness. It’ very important to get any unforgiveness out of our hearts. Jesus forgave us. We cannot hold unforgiveness. As Believers, the Body of Christ, we should be known for forgiveness.

In our changing culture, it appears that more and more people are conforming to the status quo so as not to be singled out for the choices that they are making. As Simpson points out, God is looking for courage. “I think that God would rather deal with a sinner that has courage than a Christian that has got none, and God can use the sinner, He can actually change him, but passivity is absolutely useless, and it’s a sin in the face of crisis.” Simpson continues, “to watch something happen that you could intervene in, and not intervene is criminal. You’re part of the problem.” Regardless of what people do or decide not to do, it’s important not to get caught up in perceiving someone as our enemy.
