I was leaving my nieces house last night after throwing the football with her son and having a great meal together after it had gotten dark. I was slowly driving through her gorgeous neighborhood heading home looking at the beautiful houses in her immaculate neighborhood which looks amazing at nighttime. They are large houses, beautifully lit and amazingly landscaped. A couple houses I just stopped and looked and thank God for that family who was so blessed by God to have such a house. I am so grateful to the Lord for blessing them.
Then as I was passing by one beautiful house, I saw their front door open and gleaming in their front room you could clearly see “Christmas”, a beautifully lit top to bottom Christmas Tree. What, it’s not even Thanksgiving and they put their Christmas Tree up, yet I was overtaken by its beauty. I would have loved to park, walk up to their door, and ask if I could see their Christmas Tree, but I knew that would be “odd” and in today’s world, very suspicious. So sad, what those who move in darkness have done to us being able to openly visit and fellowship with our neighbors.
It was interesting how this neighborhood, though nice in the daytime, was breath taking at night. Who would have thought that when it gets dark, their beauty is fully shown. Did you know that as a believer, you are known as “Children of the Light” and that the darker the world gets and the people in the world gets the more your light shines? The beauty that God has done in and through your life becomes more visible to everyone who sees you. Don’t be afraid of the dark, nor spend your time screaming at the darkness, be the Light. Kings will come to your Light! People will pass you in this darkness, their hearts will be overtaken by the Light, they’ll stop and will come to your Light, be ready to welcome them.
It was at that moment I wanted to do the same. Let’s put our Christmas Tree up and enjoy Christmas longer than we have in the past. It brings such beautiful experiences with friends and family. I immediately when to Spotify and pulled up my Classic Christmas playlist: The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole, White Christmas by Bing Crosby, It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas by Perry Como, Happy Holidays by Andy Williams… Then I walked into my office prepared and sent out a December Christmas dinner invitation to our family my father and his beautiful wife are planning for us. What a great feeling in my heart to remember CHRISTmas!
Ultimately, the beauty of the Light of the Christmas Tree that caught my eye and my heart were a witness to me about the Light that was born on Christmas day, the Light of the World. “I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
