Presently, the voices coming against the acknowledgement of God in America appear to be increasing. A misconception is the idea that God doesn’t belong in America, that government should be separated from the acknowledgement of God. By simply walking through the nation’s capital in Washington D.C. and the monuments that are there, not only will one find the acknowledgement of God, but also the bold declaration of God within the lives of our earliest leaders.

America’s first president, George Washington, ended his acceptance oath to Presidency by opening up the Holy Bible to Deuteronomy, chapter 28. He then proceeded to kiss these very pages. Verse 1 reads: “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.” The Washington Monument in D.C. is a highlight to the leadership and presidency of this man and the life that he lived.

In 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the very foundation of this monument causing significant damage. After a 3 year restoration period, it is open again to the public.
