LISTEN NOW! In light of the recent events that have unfolded from the streets of Baltimore, many have shared their own perspective of the events. Few have been as balanced and clear as ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith’s statement. According to Smith, “We have to understand the difference between police brutality and a brutal act by a particular police officer.” Smith brings profound insight about the use and outcome of the term “police brutality” and how it causes division when used. Smith shares the revealing truth to the individuals that chose to respond with looting and vandalizing, ultimately affecting those who are their neighbors and fellow citizens.
Smith shares the vital truth for all of us to recognize by stating, “We’re not looking inward. We’re busy looking outside, at everybody else, what everyone else has done to us, what history has done to us, how it has affected us……Our ancestors, considering our history, what they had to go through, and the sacrifices that they had to make to get us to this point, our ancestors would be ashamed of how we’re conducting ourselves.” Regardless of how we attempt to engage these events and these realities, true healing and reconciliation can only come at the foot of the Cross. We are seeing America being divided on every topic and discussion imaginable. We can only come together in humility, at the Cross, and find the answer in God. Hear the full story of what has taken place, how we can respond, and so much more.
