9/11 United For Prayer – Praying for Pensacola and America, on September 11, 2016

by

The City of Pensacola, on September 11, 2016, witnessed an awesome answer to prayer as multitudes gathered upon the Pensacola Bay Center for a time of praying for the city and the nation. It was a consuming moment to walk through the doors of this venue, which is usually packed for sporting events and music concerts, and witness people with the sole purpose of lifting up the name of Jesus Christ and praying for their nation. Pastor Joey Rogers, from Pace Assembly, and Pastor Ted Traylor, from Olive Baptist, led this encouraging and stirring event. What some may not know was that this event was first a declaration of faith by Pastor Joey Rogers and Pastor Ted Traylor after a previous prayer gathering was held a few months prior.

Between beautiful songs of worship and praise, civil leaders, and pastors led times of prayer, that touched on specific portions of 2 Chronicles 7:14; if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Openly sharing about his own personal journey of enduring difficult seasons, David Mayo, Station Manager at WHBR-TV, shared about our need to cry out to God and having a heart of gratitude. Florida Congressman, Jeff Miller, was also present, sharing in the prayers and the need for our cries to be lifted up to the Lord.

As Pensacola’s first African American Chief of Police, David Alexander III, began to grasp his microphone, the crowd erupted with applause as they stood to their feet. It was an additionally encouraging moment as he began to share about the need for our nation to reconcile with one another of the many issues that have cause division and overcome petty differences. Pastor of Brownsville Assembly, Evon Horton, continued on the same chord as he began to speak and repent for the racial division in our city and nation.

As Pastor Ken Hall, from Grace Pointe, and Bernard Yates, from Zion Hope Primitive Baptist, began to share about the symptoms and troubling realities unfolding in America, they encouraged all of those present that now is the time, more than ever, for a Third Great Awakening to be poured out in America.

Pastor Joey Rogers, concluded the night by sharing the simple message of the Gospel and the truth that the Only Way to the Father is through His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. In response to his words, hands were lifted up all throughout the venue of those signifying their response to give their lives to Jesus Christ and receiving Him as their Lord and Savior. It was a joyful moment of celebration.

Every pastor who was present was invited up to the stage, to be honored, and to join in the final words of worship to the Lord. The night was full of encouragement, from the first sounds of worship to the final note. It is for a time such as this that we were called to be a part of what God is doing and to tell everyone what God IS doing. This night of prayer didn’t end, but instead is being carried into the homes of believers all across the city. Continue to stand with us by praying for America and seeking the face of God through humble cries and petitions to the Lord.
