America is a Democratic Republic NOT a Democracy
In America, we have heard people say over and over that we are a Democracy, but we are not! We are a Democratic Republic, and the entire founding of America is based on this. It is even quoted in our Pledge of Allegiance! We see that people are trying to push America to be a Democracy which would end in a mob rule and in other countries who have put a Democracy in place ultimately end up with a dictator as their leader. So, what is the difference between a Democracy and a Democratic Republic? The Real News Network breaks this down for us and gives us a better understanding of the difference between these two. First off America is NOT a Democracy. In America, lawmakers draft a bill and vote on a bill. At that point, they let the people know what the decision is and if there is a new law. In a Democracy, a law would be written and then voted on by the people, and the majority wins. Everything is based on majority rules. “When the Founders (of America) created our Constitution and our Bill of Rights, they established a form of government, and they actually determined that a Democracy was the worst form of government. Many of the founders said that Democracy was nothing more than mob rule and so they were against Democracy. Instead, felt the correct form of government for this free nation was a Republic.”
The next question asked is what is a republic? “A republic is a form of government where the people will go to the polls to elect men and women who represent them. And those elected leaders vote and create our laws. The people don’t vote directly on laws that affect their life; rather it’s lawmakers who are chosen among the people…they represent the majority of society. The other thing that is important to understand is the distinction between Democracy and a Republic is that a Democracy is the rule of man, man ruling over each other which our founding fathers believed turned into mob rule. A Republic is the rule of law. Laws are formed and created…and then those laws are never superseded by mob rule or superseded by elected officials. They are all under law! “
President Donald Trump is a man who is upholding the laws and the people who want a Democracy-run government have organized mobs against the laws and authority. We are called to follow the authorities that are established because God establishes them!
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:1-2
God is a God of authority! We must walk in the fear of the Lord as we follow the authority God has established in our lives.
Our rights come from God. When you have a country, which is controlled by socialism or communism, then that is a people who have surrendered their rights, and it is saying that your rights come from government. In America, our Constitution represents the fact that our rights come from God! As an American why would we not want to acknowledge the freedoms and rights that we have? One way we do that is the Pledge of Allegiance which is declared at sports events but has been removed from many schools! Why would we not want our kids to say this?
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
We don’t want a divided country; America is the United States not the Divided States! Anything divided will fall, and right now there is much division, but we can choose to unite together once again.
“If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:24-25
We can look at how many nations have fallen because of division, and we must pray for this division to end in America so that our nation will not fall.

Hill reminds us that less than 100 men were the ones that we must thank for the U.S. Constitution, which includes all laws and instructions of how our government runs when it was written and voted into law. “Now that single document, still known today as our U.S. Constitution, remains the ultimate law of the land. The most sacred code we have for how the government should look.”
Hill further breaks down how the central government was originally set up and how it is split into three different branches, Legislative, Judicial, and Executive. “Each branch would have its own unique powers and with the power divided three ways the central government would never get too strong. The Legislative branch, made up of two houses full of elected representatives of the different states, would come up with proposals for law, known as bills. The Executive branch made up of the President and his or her closest advisors, a group called the Cabinet, would receive those suggestions for law and either veto or reject them or sign off on them, turning bills into law. Judges from the Judicial branch would settle any arguments over how individual laws should be applied. They also reserved the right to overrule any laws that violated the Constitution. The way that each branch puts a limit on what others can do is called the system of checks and balances, and as one further limit on the central government, individual citizens are able to vote on their choice of representatives for the Legislative branch and for the President in the Executive branch.”
The delegates who voted in the Constitution knew that American citizens would also have good ideas so they made it where future Americans could make changes to the Constitution which are called Amendments. Surprisingly right after the Constitution had been approved and the central government met for the first time in the year 1788 the Legislative branch, known as Congress, received suggestions to make amendments immediately! “A lot of people were still afraid that the central government would be too strong. Of all the changes suggested by the states, Congress voted to approve ten of them as amendments to the Constitution. Today we refer to these first ten amendments as the Bill of Rights. They are a shield protecting you from mistreatment by the government. Among other things they guarantee you the individual the freedom to believe what you want, to say what you want, to own a weapon if you want, and to be defended in court if someone accuses you of a crime. Without this Bill of Rights and the opportunity to create other amendments in the future who knows if the Constitution would have survived until today?”
Thanks to the American citizens who stood up for our individual rights, we have the Bill of Rights in place which protects us from the government controlling us and our individual freedoms!
