God is moving in the Entertainment Mountain! In recent days there have been many different people in the entertainment industry who have given their lives to the Lord, including Kanye West and Justin Bieber. We hear from Justin Bieber as he is interviewed on Apple Music with Zane Lowe. There are a series of questions Justin answers, so be sure to watch them all. This is encouraging as he shares his faith in Christ!
Justin shares how he sees his relationship with Jesus as he explains the correct perspective of how we should see Jesus and have a relationship with Him outside of religious works. “The way I look at my relationship with God, with Jesus is, I’m not trying to earn God’s love by doing good things. God has already loved me for who I am before I did anything to earn and deserve it. It’s a free gift by accepting Jesus and giving your life to Him. What He did is the gift. Forgiveness is the thing that we look at, and ‘I’m going to worship You, God because You gave me something so good.’ I live a life where I don’t want to cheat on my wife, not because it’s the right thing to do but because I don’t want to hurt her.” That is love by putting someone above yourself.
Approaching God with the idea that we are earning His love is wrong because that is walking in self-righteousness. It is only because He loved us first that we can love Him. Religion, which is trying to earn God’s love, will make us turn away from God instead of turning to Him. Having a relationship with God and receiving His love will make us want to turn to Him, even when we mess up! This is what Justin was saying, and through that realization and coming to love Jesus; he wants to obey Him. Obedience is a byproduct of loving the Lord.
