Seasons of the Prophetic: Forget Me

We have a conversation about the seasons of the prophetic. Greg shares about some things he has learned personally and things we can learn from the Word of God and from those that have gone before us. It is important for us to learn more about the prophetic because there is a misconception that the prophetic is something, we can’t come close to, but the Lord says He will pour out His Spirit on all people!

“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.’” Acts 2:16-18

We are not speaking of personal prophets who give personal words constantly at request or offer to give a word, which is important, but those who God burns on their hearts a word they are to carry for a season.

“Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7

It is a word that won’t let them rest, and they carry like it is the most important thing on the earth because, in truth, every word from God is the most important thing! When we see a prophet in a season of declaring a word, it can be inspiring as they speak with boldness, authority, and passion that can only come from God. Upon God’s call, things shift, yet every season does not last. Seasons come to an end.

We see seasons happen in the natural like weather and sports. Each season has its moment then it changes to the next. For example, if we are in a new season, it would be confusing to talk about a past season like it was still happening.

An essential part of seasons of the prophetic is a season we call, forget me. The end of a prophetic season doesn’t mean that the desired outcome that the Lord had intended for that prophetic season will come to pass. Sometimes it does come to pass, and sometimes it does not. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a prophetic season where the Lord’s desired outcome happened, where repentance came, or God just showed forth His mercy and just blessed people despite their behavior. It is sad when a prophetic season passes because people did not respond to what God was saying.

For example, Greg shares a prophetic season he was a part of, which lasted almost ten years. He declared Malachi 4:5-6, which we called the Malachi Mandate. You can find out more HERE about that. He was burning with this word in his spirit! “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” One day near the end of this season, God’s presence showed up in his office which caused Greg to stand up out of his chair at attention ready to listen to what God had to say, and he heard God say, “It is finished, they didn’t turn, now it is time for you to focus fully on Vine Fellowship Network.”

Greg tried to pick up this word again to carry out the Malachi Mandate even though God had told him that is was finished. In the middle of the first meeting, he felt like God was almost choking him as he was reminded to leave that prophetic season and move into the new! In this moment, Greg knew he was to forget the Malachi Mandate as that season had passed and move into what God had asked him to do next. You can learn from Greg’s experience to see how serious it is that we follow God’s direction when He has asked us to leave a season that has passed.

Many people didn’t respond to the prophetic word that Greg was proclaiming through the Malachi Mandate, and once he moved on to the next prophetic season, the earth started to shake and quake! Through the shaking on the earth, people are usually more willing to turn to the Lord!

It’s important to prepare yourself with the knowledge, just because you are carrying a word from the Lord; it doesn’t make you more valuable or valuable in the eyes of others.  Quite often, it makes you less valuable in the eyes of others who are being confronted by the word. So, you can’t take it personally when people reject the word you shared with them. Samuel, a prophet written in the Bible, was upset when people were turning away from what God had established, and God said to him, “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.”

Greg has observed that most don’t see or perceive fully what God is doing or saying, yet somehow things shift by God’s mercy. Because of this, they forget you delivered a constant word that steered the hearts of many in God’s direction for them.  This happened in Jonah’s lifetime, written about in the Bible, where after many trials, he finally declared the prophetic words God had told him to share, which caused the people of Nineveh to run to the Lord in repentance.

It can be a hard time to carry the word of the Lord and deliver that word. In the natural delivering a baby is a beautiful thing, but most of the time, the mother comes out of the delivery looking a little rough, but she delivered the baby. In the same way, when someone carries and delivers a prophetic word, they will not come out of it looking their best. But you can’t be worried what people think about you only worry what God thinks about you! John the Baptist had it right when he said, “He must increase; I must decrease.” It is not about our name but about God’s name. There is a price to pay, but the value is in the eyes of God. However, when the season ends, it ends. It is in God’s hands. Everyone has a free will to respond to Gods word or turn away from it. It is hard in those moments where people turn away, but we must give that to God and move on to what God is calling us to next. Only look for approval in the eyes of God! We stand before God alone at His judgment seat, and we want to be found as His faithful servant. We want people to acknowledge God, not us, which is why we call this season, forget me. Every prophet that was on the earth 100 years ago and beyond are all gone! It wasn’t about them; it was about God!

Seasons of the Prophetic: Season of Change

The next season of the prophetic is the season of change. As God continues to use you, you will be amazed at how things shift, and you must let go of the past season. If God continues to use you prophetically in the next season, you must let go of the past! This is when it can get tough for people as they may credit you instead of God for a word not coming to pass. It can be hard to transition in a season of change as the prophetic word has become a part of you. It is like dying to an old season, and you can almost lose yourself in this transition because it can be like you became that word. To not get lost in that moment, you must remember that God is the One who gave you that word, and He will carry you in the next season, delivering the next word.

You can almost lose yourself in this transition if you are not careful as this new prophetic season is so much different than the last. You can’t use anything you used in the past season as you had used them, for all that was for that word and that season.  There will need to be a new focus, a new structure if you would, built for this season to carry the word.  You must let go of the past season, completely. This is very hard as you become the word you carry almost.  It shouldn’t be your identity, yet when you carry something that burns in your heart, and you do everything you can to obey God and get that word out, it’s a major letting Go and unfolding from that season.  There may be things that were built in the previous season that can come with you, but its use will be completely different.  For example, if you cooked vegetables only in a pot for many years, but suddenly you begin to cook only soups or meats in that same pot.  The pot didn’t change, but it’s purpose totally did.  From Greg’s experience some things can be created in a season that you will use in the next season, but it has nothing to do with the brand-new word. Understand that there is a season for it and when things begin to change, you must pay attention because even if people aren’t responding to what God is saying, the season may be over.

Seasons of the Prophetic: A Season of Redefining

We have a conversation about the seasons of the prophetic. Greg shares about some things he has learned personally and things we can learn from the Word of God and from those that have gone before us. It is important for us to learn more about the prophetic because there is a misconception that the prophetic is something, we can’t come close to, but the Lord says He will pour out His Spirit on all people!

Another season of the prophetic is a season of redefining. For a new season to take place, you will need to make a clean break from the past season and not allow the past season to creep into your new one. The season of redefining often include deep wounding’s that humble us. A.W. Tozer said, “It is doubtful whether God can bless a man greatly until He has hurt him deeply.” This is how God prepares us because we must walk humbly, completely dependent on God, through each season. Paul wrote about how God gave him a thorn in his flesh to keep him humble. How was Paul used at a greater level? He had to go through some hard things.

In our season of redefining, we may ask, why did something so bad and difficult happen? It is a reshaping! Pastor John Kilpatrick, with Church of His Presence, said: “Our biggest breakthroughs often come right after our deepest betrayals.” You may think things are over because you have been hurt deeply, but God is setting you up to use you in the next season at a greater level.

Delivering a prophetic word is not about us, but since humans can lean towards being prideful, God will allow things to happen in our life that humbles us to keep us in a place of total dependence on Him. Even Jesus, who is the Son of God, said, “Not My will, but Your will be done!” Jesus set the example for us. We need to pay attention to what God is doing in every season that we are in.
