WATCH! Mr. Rogers’ “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” The Story Behind the Story

LISTEN NOW!

Mr. Roger’s “Rarely What We See is Essential, It’s What We Don’t See That is.”

Do you remember watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood? Mr. Rogers did many things in his life. He was a children’s television presenter, actor, puppeteer, singer, composer, television producer, author, educator, and Presbyterian Minster. His life was recently recognized through a new documentary, Won’t You be my Neighbor, which is the 13th highest grossing documentary of all times! The movie grossed 20 million dollars in 52 days! Mr. Rogers did well sharing the love of God to the world through his life. As St. Francis of Assisi said, “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary use words.” Mr. Rogers did just that.

Mr. Rogers is interviewed by Charlie Rose and remarks on the fact that we need to look beyond the outside of people. “What is essential is invisible to the eye…the older I get the more important I know that is. Because what we see that is rarely what is essential. What’s behind your face is what’s essential.” He is asked the question by Charlie, “What can’t we see about you that’s essential?” Mr. Rogers answers, “You can’t see my spiritual life, unless you ask me about it. You don’t see my family life unless you ask me about it.” Jesus even talks about looking for the things unseen. “…Look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. ESV We are spirits that have bodies that possess a soul. So many are caught up in making the outside look good, not understanding that God is focused on the inside, on our hearts. Many are miserable and falling apart on the inside even when the outside looks good. Be encouraged to focus on your family and everyone you meet and to ask how they are on the inside. We need to be healed on the inside and we must help others be healed on the inside as well.

Charlie poses the next question, “What have you learned from the kids?” Mr. Rogers answers, “Practically everything. How to know that it’s alright to say what comes to your mind right away.” He goes on to say that Jesus even talked about the children. “Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”  He says that Jesus may have been thinking, “I want to be involved with these innocent people who make up the Kingdom of heaven.” Unless we become like a child we can’t inherit the Kingdom of heaven! We can choose this and become like a child and we can ask God to help us with that too. We want to hear from you, what do you think about this perspective of focusing on the heart of others and becoming like a child? Greg and John shared in this segment.

The Secret to Mr. Rogers Success: Spent Two Hours Every Day Abiding with the Lord

We continue the conversation about Mr. Rogers, of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Mr. Rogers did many things in his life. He was a children’s television presenter, actor, puppeteer, singer, composer, television producer, author, educator, and Presbyterian Minister. His life was recently recognized through a new documentary, Won’t You be my Neighbor, which is the 13th highest grossing documentary of all times! How was he able to do so many things with his life? He spent two hours a day abiding, spending time, with the Jesus!

Charlie Rose continues his interview of Mr. Rogers and asks the question of how he starts his day. “I get up every morning at least by five, have a couple hours of quiet time, reflect about what it is that is important, before I go swimming and then the business of the day…what can we do to encourage people to have more quiet in their lives, more silence? Real revelation comes through silence.” Are you able to be quiet? The most powerful thing you can do is to be quiet before the Lord. Jesus talks about abiding with Him, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” Mr. Rogers was able to accomplish all he did because he spent that quiet time every morning with the Lord. This is how we at VFNKB are able to do all that we do because we spend time with God every day. Imagine if the whole Church would abide with God every day and many want to spend time with God, but they don’t know how to. You can get your free plan today and learn to spend time with God at iAbide. Sign up today and we will send you your plan right away and you can also join the VFNKB movement at the same time. Mr. Rogers: Graceful receiving is one of the most wonderful gifts we can give anybody.

Are you a good receiver? We continue the conversation about Mr. Rogers, of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Mr. Rogers did many things in his life. He was a children’s television presenter, actor, puppeteer, singer, composer, television producer, author, educator, and Presbyterian Minister. His life was recently recognized through a new documentary, Won’t You be my Neighbor, which is the 13th highest grossing documentary of all times!

Charlie Rose continues the interview with Mr. Rogers, and he talks about how important it is to be a good receiver. “I see that people who are not the fancy people in this world, are the ones who seem to nourish my soul and I want to learn how to be the best receiver I can ever be. Because I think graceful receiving is one of the most wonderful gifts we can give anybody.” It is so important to receive gifts gracefully because many, including children, may work hard on a gift for you and for you to receive it with a grateful heart and a smile, with words of affirmation, that is a gift right back to the giver. Even if you are a person of few words make sure to speak out, so they know that you truly appreciate their gift. Mr. Rogers, giving 30 years of his life, showed us how to be a graceful receiver and we can follow his example. What do you think about graceful receiving? Mr. Rogers Secret to Living a Satisfied Life

We continue the conversation about Mr. Rogers, of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and he gives us the secret to a satisfied life. How many people are not satisfied in this life? Many people are only focused on the next thing to bring them satisfaction. We weren’t meant to be satisfied on this earth because only satisfaction can be found in a relationship with God. But many people keep trying to find their fulfillment and satisfaction in the temporary pleasures that only last for a day. So many are focused on themselves which, if you think about it, self-focus is like a black hole and you can get sucked into that and not even notice the other people around you. Because of this many are dry in their soul because they are only thinking of themselves. Turning our thoughts to others can bring satisfaction and empowers us because when we love others that is loving Jesus! This is even a command in Mark 12:31, “‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these. ESV”

Mr. Rogers, interviewed by Charlie Rose, gives us the secret to a satisfied life. “Have you ever known anybody who was really satisfied or happy, who had never made a difference in someone else’s life?” Charlie answered that no he had not heard of anyone satisfied that focused on themselves. This lines up with, Proverbs 11:25 “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. ESV” When we bless someone else we ourselves will be blessed. Mr. Rogers gave a great example of how to live our lives for others! We can make the same impact in our lives no matter our platform if we abide with the Lord just like Mr. Rogers did. We want to hear your thoughts on this, you can email us at [email protected]. Greg and John shared in this segment.
