Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role and Faith in our nation’s history– Part 3 – The Washington Monument

John, Pat and Steve continue the conversation of Newt Gingrich’s book, Rediscovering God in America. Presently, the voices coming against the acknowledgement of God in America appear to be increasing. A misconception is the idea that God doesn’t belong in America, that government should be separated from the acknowledgement of God. By simply walking through the nation’s capital in Washington D.C. and the monuments that are there, not only will one find the acknowledgement of God, but also the bold declaration of God within the lives of our earliest leaders.

America’s first president, George Washington, ended his acceptance oath to Presidency by opening up the Holy Bible to Deuteronomy, chapter 28. He then proceeded to kiss these very pages. Verse 1 reads: “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.” The Washington Monument in D.C. is a highlight to the leadership and presidency of this man and the life that he lived.

In 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the very foundation of this monument causing significant damage. After a 3 year restoration period, it is open again to the public. The Harvest; the Importance of Abiding

Steve, John, and Pat share about the importance of abiding as they talk about Rick Joyner’s book, The Harvest. Amidst today’s generation of technology and communication, we are able to speak with the world with a click of a button; we are able to connect with what is happening with the change of channel. How do we communicate when there is no internet, when there is no power? How do we connect with relatives in another city or state with no cell phones?

Rick Joyner writes, “Major conferences of apostles and elders will be convened with no invitations being issued and no word being passed concerning them. The Holy Spirit will speak to each who is to attend and He will preside. The Lord Himself will be directing the harvest of the world like the most perfectly managed farm…… The preparation for this great emphasis of the Spirit will be to know the Lord’s voice.”

In these current days, it is imperative for us to know the Lord’s voice. Exciting days are upon us. When we look at what is happening, we can be fearful, unless we know the one who is holding Creation in the palm of His hand. Be encouraged as you find out how to begin an abiding relationship with the Lord, and so much more. It’s Not Personal: It’s Spiritual

John, Pat and Steve talk about the complexity of Jesus’ life and paradigms that He walked in. The Bible highlights the many miracles that Jesus did while He walked on Earth: turning water to wine, He healed the blind, He healed the woman with the issue of blood, He walked on water, and many others. Even amidst such powerful miracles, it was the religious leaders of the day who wanted to kill Jesus. Jesus walked in such a cloak of humility, regardless of the repeated insults that were hurled at Him, He never got offended. Jesus chose to leave the splendors of Heaven to take on our limited frame as humans, to empathize with all of our weaknesses, in order to save us.

An analogy that paints a picture of this paradigm is to imagine a human having compassion on an ant pile. The love of this particular human compels him to leave the understanding and abilities of the human frame to take on the life of an ant. It is important to remember, as an ant, he’ll never again walk in the fullness of a human being. All this was done with the hopes that the ants will receive this one particular ant and believe he came to save them. This analogy pales in comparison to the reality of what Jesus has done for us, but it highlights the greatness and humility of who Jesus is.
