When Law and Morality Collide Part 3: Be of No Reputation, Commit to Taking Action, and You Can’t Do It Alone

We continue the conversation concerning Law and Morality. When you are walking with God, because of His grace and because of His goodness you are better than yesterday. God’s law is forever. Man’s laws come and go. Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego are a good example of how they chose morality over man’s law. They didn’t give in to the law of the land they stood with what God said and did not worship other gods and walked into the furnace in obedience and were met by Jesus in the fire. We need courage today to stand for what is right. We are facing a day in time where you have a choice, are you going to please man or please God? Matthew 10:22-23 “So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” How great it is to choose to please God and because of that decision Jesus acknowledges us before His Father!

Bishop Harry Jackson, Pastor of Reconciled Church, shares on CBN with Efrem Graham and he responds to Bill O’Reilly’s statement saying Christians leaders are not taking a stand. He says that Bill O’Reilly is correct, but he called out the wrong people. “Essentially, we have a Church that is falling asleep.” He says there are three things the average Pastor fears more than anything: To be made a spectacle on social media; secondly having church attendees that don’t want to be mobilized; thirdly, a lack of unity in the Church. He emphasizes that we need to come together in unity. By working together, it is harder to take out individuals. Another reason Christians aren’t being heard is that the media does not want to give air time to some of the voices that God has raised up. We need to come together as the Church and pray hard for our voices to be heard. 

James 1:22-25 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ²³ For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. ²⁴ For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. ²⁵ But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” God is looking for someone to hear and do what He is saying. Bishop Harry Jackson was talking about this, that we need the Church to hear what God is saying and do what He says. John 8:31 “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.” We are all sinners saved by grace. It is not about being sinless as a Christian, it is about being forgiven for our sins. Only hearing about the things of God without doing anything is not good enough. Only doing for God without hearing is not right either. Only hearing and doing what God says is where you will find true success for God’s Kingdom. When Law and Morality Collide; Understanding the Present-Day Christian Dilemma in America- Part 2

We continue the discussion about Law and Morality and the difference between the two. When slavery was legal, that was a law that was against God’s morals, but many Christians thought it was right because it was legal. It seems crazy now, but then it was normal because people were blinded and were deceived thinking that because it was legal it was moral, but it was not. Then you have abortion, Roe v Wade was passed, and now many people are deceived and think because it is legal in America to have an abortion that it is right. But it is against God’s morals! When we see laws like this, it should make us run to God. We, as the Church, need to stand up against things that are immoral and stand for what God says and bring light into the darkness. Ask God how to walk in America, as a civil Christian in a civil nation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. set a great example of how to do this. Luke 10:2-3 tells us, “Jesus told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.” When we stand up for what is right it may not be easy, Jesus can be a wedge between people, but that separates us from those who are not following the Lord. The Beatitudes talk about how we are to be as believers. Matthew 5:3-10 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” As a Christian, we should be different than those living in the darkness. We should stand out. Our life should be light in this darkness and lead others to the Light, Jesus. Are we going to stand up as global citizens for the morals of God? It is time to look at those who stood for God in history and choose to follow their example and stand for what is right. We want to hear from you and what you think about Law and Morality. When Law and Morality Collide-Understanding the Present-Day Christian Dilemma in America

What does law mean? In America, we have many different laws, but with God we have morality. When you think about the laws of men you have an example of the laws the legislator decides to establish. As Christians, we have morality from God. Morality is defined as: of, relating to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; ethical; moral attitudes. Founded on the fundamental principles of right conduct rather than on legalities, enactment, or custom: moral obligations. When you think about the aspect of these two things, law, and morality, they are not the same thing! Paul talks about the war between law and morality, Romans 7:15-20 “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Sometimes laws are put in place that is against the moral law of God; this is not the end of the world, God does not change based on the law of the land. Also, God doesn’t expect us to change when laws are put in place against the moral law. Then at times, we have laws and morality overlapping where a law lines up with the morality of God.

Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.”  Therefore Christians groan; we have the law of the land that can create a problem when we are called to live moral lives. We can only do this walk by God’s grace. Many people historically have violated God’s moral law while they were living by the law of the land. And at the end of their life, they are deceived into thinking they lived morally correct before God, when in reality they are legally correct before man but immoral towards God. In this world we will have man’s law and God’s law collide and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. shares his perspective on this, “Hate does not drive out hate, only love can do that. Darkness does not drive out darkness, only light can do that.” And he also talks about the right choice you can make concerning immoral laws, “I do feel that there are two types of laws, one is a just law, and one is an unjust law I think we all have moral obligations to obey just laws, on the other hand, I think we have moral obligations to disobey unjust laws, because non cooperation with evil is as much a moral obligation as is cooperation with good.” Dr. King was warning us how we can save a nation. 

In this world, men are trying to save themselves by the law. A law can be a person’s preference over one thing versus another. This is not God’s law. The plan of satan is for people to live up to their own rules. Relationship with God is about grace, mercy, and empowerment and Jesus’ finished work on the cross that enables us to walk right with God! Any good that happens in our life is God, not us. Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.” Our righteousness is not based on the law of man but what Jesus did on the cross. You cannot legislate morality and keep in mind we are saved by grace.
