Appeal to Heaven Explained by David Barton

LISTEN NOW! By looking at the present condition of our country, we can see that we must turn our hearts back to God. 2 Chronicles 7:14 reminds us of what we must do, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” According to Barton, “Polling shows that more than 3/4^th of the nation thinks that we’re headed in the wrong direction.” An appeal to heaven is surely the order for today. But, when we look at the original story of our Nation, we can clearly see that an Appeal to Heaven is not anything new.

Before America was even a nation, those who were fighting for its freedom found themselves opposite of the world’s largest military fleet: The British. In that age, ships would fly their nations’ flag high atop their mast so that other ships would know whose ship it was and not to shoot at friendly ships. When General George Washington commissioned 6 ships into his fleet to fight against the British, they didn’t have a flag. It was an Appeal to Heaven flag signifying that their only hope was in God.

Where we are today is no different than what the pages of history have gone through. Barton shares this powerful reminder of truth, that “voting is not a right, it is a duty.”
