The God Prescription: Healing Body, Soul, and Spirit – Praying in Tongues inspired by Dr. Avery Jackson – Daystar

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Five Things We Will Learn

  1. God can call a child to a specific vocation like neurosurgery and guide them through every obstacle.
  1. Praying in tongues during surgery brings divine peace and precise direction from the Holy Spirit.
  1. Emotional wounds, trauma, and unforgiveness directly contribute to physical illnesses.
  1. Brain scans show praying in tongues activates receptive areas of the brain, proving submission to the Holy Spirit.
  1. True wholeness comes from addressing spirit, soul, and body together through faith in Christ.

God’s Early Calling on a Young Life

Dr. Avery Jackson shares how, as a second-grade boy, he saw his grandmother suffer a stroke and asked the Lord how to help people with brain problems. The Lord clearly spoke, telling him to become a neurosurgeon. Despite no doctors in his family and challenges like standardized tests, he pursued this calling for 24 years, completing over 10,000 brain and spine surgeries.

Leading Surgeries with the Holy Spirit

Dr. Avery prays for patients at home and then, as directed by the Lord, in the hospital before surgery. He prays in his heavenly language during operations, feeling God’s peace. When peace lifts, he stops. In one 24-hour surgery on a child with a bleeding brain tumor, he and the team persisted through ups and downs, ultimately removing the tumor successfully. In another case, a large benign spinal tumor risked paralysis; the Holy Spirit gave precise directions on which way to pull, resulting in full recovery.

Scientific Evidence for Praying in Tongues

A 2005 study by Andrew Newberg using SPECT scans showed that praying in one’s native language activates the frontal lobes, the area for speech production. Praying in tongues, however, lights up the parietal lobes—receptive areas—while still producing sound, demonstrating submission to the Holy Spirit rather than self-control. Those who regularly pray in tongues were noted to be more emotionally and mentally stable.

Emotional Health and Physical Disease

Eighty-five percent of physical diseases are caused directly or indirectly by emotional unwellness. Trauma, anxiety, depression, bitterness, and unforgiveness create subconscious loops that trigger fight-or-flight responses, raising inflammation and suppressing natural killer cells that fight viruses and cancer. Patients with clinical anxiety and depression healed more slowly after surgery. Hope in Christ, however, strengthens the immune system and supports recovery.

Healing is spiritual, emotional, and physical. Jesus’ work on the cross provides wholeness in all three areas. Keeping the mind stayed on God brings perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Declaring God’s promises over diagnosis, spending time in the Word, and praying in tongues renew the mind and align emotions with truth. Surrendering fully to the Holy Spirit allows believers to walk in authority and freedom as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
