When the Night Feels Endless
You may be walking through difficult circumstances. Work may have slowed or stopped. Your family may be carrying new responsibilities, and you may even be homeschooling your children while trying to navigate an uncertain season. Whatever you are facing, know this: there is light just ahead.
Sometimes the darkest moment comes just before the dawn.
Midnight Patrol on Pensacola Beach
I remember when I served in law enforcement and worked the midnight shift. Those were such long hours. I was stationed on Pensacola Beach from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
Things would seem to be going well until around 2:30 in the morning. By then, the island was empty. The businesses were closed. Everyone was gone. It was just me, the moon, the stars, the sand, and a clock that moved so slowly it seemed I could hear its hands crawling toward the next minute.
I tried everything to stay awake. I washed my police cruiser. I drank coffee, lots of coffee. I walked around. I rode the four-wheeler down the beach. Yet the clock hardly seemed to move.
Then the Dawn Appeared
When it seemed that 6:00 a.m. would never come, I would suddenly see the first light of the sun peeking over the Gulf of America.
What a sight. It felt like a breath of fresh air. The long night was suddenly forgotten, and all that remained was a new day. I felt refreshed and ready to go. Why? Because I had made it through the darkness and into the light.
It was always the darkest part of the night just before the dawning of a new day.
Hold On, the Light Is Just Ahead
I want to encourage you to hold on. Though it may seem that things are getting darker, remember that the dawning of a new day is just ahead. The darkness and struggle you are presently facing will one day be behind you. When you see the light, the long night will no longer define the story.

Do Not Let the Darkness Put Out Your Light
Jesus did not say that our light matters only when circumstances are easy. He told us to shine so that others may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

They Will Come to Your Light
The light God has placed within you is not only for you. In another person’s darkest hour, the hope of Christ shining through your life may help them find their way.
