Barna Research Proves Non-Christians are Open to One on One Conversation About Christian Faith
Jesus born of a virgin lived a sinless life. Loved. Healed. Delivered. He shared the heart of God with us. In his time of ministry, He chose His 12 disciples and walked His life out with them as they ministered to others and people became believers of Jesus. Then came the time that Jesus gave His life for us and then rose again on the third day. After His resurrection, Jesus walked the earth for 40 days and talked with the disciples and told them what they needed to do once He left the earth. Lastly, He said that they were to tell the world about Him!
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
We sum up what Jesus called us to do into one word, evangelism, but it is so much more than that one word! This is what we have been called to do is to tell people about Jesus but are we as believers doing this? There is power in the Gospel! When we share our testimony, our witness of what happened when we met Jesus, then Holy Spirit will anoint what we are saying to bring conviction to the person, who then opens their heart to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
The Barna Group shared a recent report done in partnership with Alpha USA, Reviving Evangelism, that showed 52% of practicing Christians are comfortable extending an invitation to invite their friends to church. That first area discussed is how people would like to explore faith. The study was done with two groups. One being “Lapsed Christians” those who identify as Christian but have not attended church within the past month and “non-Christians” those who identify with a faith other than Christianity or with no faith at all.
Next, they look at how people have experienced evangelism.
Lastly, we look at how Christians are most comfortable sharing faith.
A way to reach people is to have a personal relationship with them! We can’t just speak to people, but we must speak with them. This is what we are called to do, to deny ourselves, to take up our cross, and follow Jesus. Everyone is looking for an authentic relationship so why would we not take the time to build relationships? This is how we win people to the Lord, by spending time with them.
