Five Things We Will Learn
- God’s love and invitation to salvation extends to every person, including those in same-sex relationships.
- Jesus meets people where they are, but calls them into transformation through repentance.
- Biblical marriage is defined by God, not culture or legal systems.
- True repentance involves real-life changes, even when those changes are costly and difficult.
- The gospel offers both a sober warning about sin and a powerful hope of complete transformation in Christ.
God’s Invitation: Love That Welcomes, Truth That Transforms
God’s Call to the Same-Sex Couple Who Come to Christ
God deeply loves every person He has created. He is not reluctant or ashamed to welcome those in same-sex relationships. On the contrary, He is full of love and eager to bring them into His family. His desire is to forgive them completely, just as He desires to forgive every person who comes to Him. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). God’s plan for them is the same as His plan for everyone — to save them, forgive them, and transform their lives as they follow Jesus. While repentance may look different depending on each person’s situation, the call to turn from sin and follow Christ is for all.

God Receives Them Where They Are
Jesus does not require anyone to fix their life before coming to Him. He welcomes those in same-sex relationships with the same love and mercy He showed to others living in sexual sin.
Their Union Is Not Recognized as Marriage
Although they are legally married under the law, the Bible does not recognize a same-sex union as a legitimate marriage. From creation, God defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6). What they have is not a marriage in God’s eyes.
The Call to Repentance
Once a person is genuinely saved, God calls them to leave their former way of life. Continuing to live as a married couple — whether as husband and husband or wife and wife — is not compatible with following Christ. True repentance requires them to cease all sexual relations and stop living as a married couple (1 Corinthians 6:9–11).
The Legal Reality
Because they entered into a legal marriage contract with the state, they will need to file for a legal divorce to dissolve that contract. While their relationship was never a true marriage before God, it is a legal reality that must be officially ended.
The Challenge of Children
When children are involved — whether adopted or born through surrogacy — the situation becomes even more painful. While this is incredibly difficult, the expectation of holiness remains the same for every believer. They must prayerfully and responsibly work out custody arrangements that honor God while seeking the well-being of the children.
A Sobering Warning for All Believers
The writer of Hebrews gives a serious warning to every Christian: “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment…” (Hebrews 10:26–27). This warning applies to all believers. Once we clearly understand the truth, we cannot continue deliberately living in any sin.
Such Were Some of You
The Apostle Paul does not single out any one group. He writes: “Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9–10).
Then he immediately gives hope: “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11).
This is the power of the gospel. No matter what the sin was, when a person truly repents and comes to Christ, they are no longer defined by their past.
