Billionaire Betsy Devos Education Secretary -Giving Back to America
Secretary of Education Betsy Devos is in a position of being over 65,800,000 million children in America which that takes up more than 21% of America’s population. Her family comes from a deep history of business owners and philanthropy. Her family is worth $5.1 Billion. Her father-in-law, Richard DeVos, owns the NBA team, The Orlando Magic, and is also a co-founder of the company, Amway. Her father also invented the “Lighted Sun Visor” design that is in many automobiles today. In addition, she and her husband created the Dick & Betsy DeVos Family Foundation. Together they have blessed many organizations and programs. “Based on the model our parents taught us, we seek to serve as faithful stewards, supporting organizations and programs that focus on community, education, the arts, justice, and leadership.” Currently in America our education system is over 200 years old and people wonder why our children are not able to make the scores they should. Secretary Devos could do anything she wanted to do but she chose to serve our country and to help our children, so they get the education that they need to succeed in life. As she shared at CPAC, “You may have heard the wonderful things the media has called me lately. I however, pride myself on being called a mother, a grandmother, a life partner of 38 years…My job isn’t to win a popularity contest with the media or the education establishment here in Washington. My job as Secretary of Education is to work for students.” We are so thankful for Secretary Devos and that she has chosen to be here for our children and to help better their education. Are Teachers Unions Actually Picking their Paycheck over Parents having School Choice Options? Our Children Deserve Better
As parents we do our best to get a good education for our children and a safe school for them to go to. Many parents enter a lottery system hoping to win a place for their children to be placed into a charter school. At the same time people who are a part of the teacher’s union have protested at a charter school chanting, “DON’T BE FOOLED! ABORT CHARTER SCHOOLS!” Bob Chanin who was previously the General Counsel for the National Education Association (NEA) spoke about the true motive behind the NEA when he shared at the 2009 NEA General Assembly. “NEA and its affiliates are such effective advocates. Despite what some among us would like to believe, it is not because of our creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not because we care about children and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power and we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them, the unions that could protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees.” As he proclaims this, applause erupts from the assembly as he openly states that it is not about our children!
An important fact to remember is that not every teacher is a part of the teacher’s union and there are great teachers that love and care about our children. As believers we don’t need a union to represent us we can look to Jesus as our advocate. Our children need to be taught the right way to go and we are one generation away from being a pagan nation! “Train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart” Thank God for Betsy Devos, Secretary of Education, who is working hard to change America’s education system.
