IOT? Code Word for What Will Take Over Our Daily Lives? The Internet of Things, IOT: What is it? What does it mean to your present and future? Does this lead to the Mark of the Beast?

What is the internet of things? What is the future of the internet? Many important things are now online or managed through the internet that it has caused American’s to be concerned about a terrorist attack shutting down our online access.  As we search online for different things what we may not know is the inter-connection of fiber optic wires stretching through oceans bridging continents together, that allow these “instant” images and web pages to appear when we hit “enter.” Imagine that type of travel happening in a single second. We use the internet so much and don’t think twice to consider the speed at which it is operating. Unfortunately, what happens with our information in this split second can be spied on by many different governments.

A term that is beginning to be heard more and more is the ‘Internet of Things,’ or “IOT.” We have smartphones, smart TVs, and smart cars, but do we realize the impact of how more and more “devices” are being connected to the internet? It seems so nice to have help from our devices to make life easier but is it worth it? What is done with all the data that is gathered as we use all our devices?

Because of this explosive growth of technology, we are finding ourselves in a drastically different culture than what existed just a few centuries ago. IBM captures this changing environment with these words, “…We have seen the emergence of a kind of global data field. The planet itself, natural systems, human systems, physical objects, have always generated an enormous amount of data, but we didn’t used to be able to hear it, to see it, to capture it. Now we can because all of this stuff is now instrumented, and it’s all interconnected, so we can have access to it.” IBM reveals a stunning reality that we may not be aware of, but we are reliant on many of the monitoring systems that are in place to make the needed decisions across a multitude of industries. Just by looking at how we travel, we can see how much we look at the coordinates of GPS to tell us where we are, where we are going, and where the next turn is; whether this travel is by foot, by taxi, or by railway, as IBM said, “It’s all interconnected.”

Everything that we do online is being monitored! Nehemiah, a book in the Bible, warns us of this.

“Because of our sins, its abundant harvest goes to the kings you have placed over us. They rule over our bodies and our cattle as they please. We are in great distress.” Nehemiah 9:37

America is still a land of laws that are written in the U.S. Constitution. The 4th Amendment in the Constitution states, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

We must seek wisdom during this time, so we know how to respond to our changing environments! Even in these days we must proclaim the Gospel, and because of technology there are many ways to tell others about Jesus. What do you think about the internet of things? We want to hear about it!
