The Power and Reward of Hard Work John Newlin
John Newlin speaks on today’s program, and we will have him for a series of interviews, which you can find them HERE on the VFN Torch. He speaks about his newly released book, Ordinary: An Ordinary Man’s Experience with God, which is a captivating book as he shares from life experiences how he encounters God time and time again!
Who is John Newlin? He is a Christian and disciple of Jesus Christ who has been happily married to Debbie for 48 years. He has two sons, Johnathan who is a doctor and Isaac who is a lawyer. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. He graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Science in 1972 and was ordained and graduated from Liberty Bible College in 1981. He owns and administrates Newlin Chiropractic which is also where his son Johnathan works. His business has won Best of the Bay awards seven years in a row and has grown each year for 20 years! When he isn’t reading his Bible or praying, he is working in his garden, hunting, fishing, or trying hard to listen to his wife so that he might understand her with his heart. He is passionate about serving the Lord, meeting his wife’s needs and helping others to be reconciled to Christ and reach their potential in Him.
John continues the conversation talking about the power and reward of hard work. John’s dad owned a rock quarry, and one of the pieces of equipment he had was a dragline which would normally move dynamite or rock. It had a big “house” on it and has many gears. John was told to work on the dragline as an oiler by oiling the gears, with a man named Cassidy. Cassidy had run off two other oilers already which is why John’s dad had him work there because he didn’t have a choice but to do the job. An oiler keeps everything greased up and clean on the dragline. This job was a seven day a week job working from 6 am to 6 pm! Cassidy tried to be mean to him and rough with him, but John would only respond with yes sir and no sir. He worked hard and did the best he could do!
John says, “When you get in a job do it as hard as you can; the very best you can and you will rise up the ladder…as a Christian, if you will do it to the Lord…it makes an ease to it.” Hard work is a rare thing today with people thinking things just happen, but you must work hard in life! You will stand out if you respect and honor authority in your life which will lead to promotion! And that pleases God.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…” Colossians 3:23 ESV
John encourages those that may be struggling with working hard in life. “Nobody owes you anything. This entitlement thing is a trap. It is in a guise of darkness. Nobody owes you anything. If you will make a way, take a step forward, and try to figure out a way to serve in some way or another…God will make a way for you…don’t shy away from hard work.” The Lord will bless your hard work! It is amazing what God will do when you trust Him and look to Him as you work hard.

John Newlin shares His Testimony and How He Met His Wife
John Newlin speaks on today’s program, and we will have him for a series of interviews, which you can find them HERE on the VFN Torch. He speaks about his newly released book, Ordinary: An Ordinary Man’s Experience with God, which is a captivating book as he shares from life experiences how he encounters God time and time again!
John shares first how he met his wife, Debbie, which was before he came to know Jesus. He was 16 years old in high school, and he saw her one day in the cafeteria. He sat across from her, and they locked eyes. He knew that he already like her and she told him later that at that moment she heard a loud voice in her mind that said she would marry John one day, which she knew later that it was God speaking to her. God has a plan for each of us, but you must reach out with your faith for that plan to come to pass!
Debbie and John began to date, fell in love, and were married. She is very sensitive to the Lord and hears prophetic words from Him. John says that he has dedicated himself to listen well to his wife as best he can now since he has learned some lessons throughout their marriage. He says their marriage went pretty well, but it was all about him, “It was like I was the king on the throne of what I wanted to do…” He would hunt and fish all night long. He also loved to shoot pool, and that was when he drank; he would play billiards to win free beer. They would buy him a beer if he won. “That does not make a marriage,” John says.
He shares what changed for him to come to the Lord. He realized he was trying to live life for himself. “There is somebody out there who is away from the Lord and hearing my story. I want to tell you, God, our Father, is like the father and the prodigal. He is waiting for you. You can have as much of God as you want! You are the one who is holding back.”
John and his wife separated as she got upset with how he was always gone, but she found John where he was living in Nashville and asked him to come back home. He knew that he had to do something different. They decided to go to church, but he was wary of church as he thought they just wanted his money and that the people were hypocrites. “I knew I had to have some kind of foundation because this thing of me being the king and going off drinking, it was ruining our marriage.” He tried several churches and couldn’t relate as it seemed everyone was hypocrites.
Finally, he was invited to a church where he felt welcomed and felt like the people were relatable. In that service, he gave his life to the Lord, and after this the Bible became alive to him! He says he has never looked back since then as he has grown in faith. Where he thought he was only going to church to restore his marriage he found out it was God calling him to become His Son!
Greg shares his testimony about how he was sitting in his cruiser when he was a Sheriff’s Deputy, and he felt the call from God to give his life to Him. He was driving down the road in the middle of the night. He had a hunger for God suddenly, as he was listening to music loudly on his radio, and he pulled into a parking lot that happened to be Brownsville Assembly of God. He gave his life to the Lord at that moment. He asked dispatch what radio station played Christian music and found out it didn’t come on until 6 am so he had to wait for it. He saw that there would be a dinner at Brownsville, so he decided to go to the Church and eat. He had no idea that night he would meet his future wife Donna where they became friends and have now been married for 31 years!
God can take you from where you are, and overnight turn you completely around from your life of sin. You must be open to that and if you are God can do that for you right now! He wants a relationship with you; it is not about religion at all. He has good plans in store for you! He will reveal those plans to you as you walk with Him. You can make Jesus the Lord of your life today! You can read more testimonies at Meet My Father and see how you can make Jesus the Lord of your life. We all need forgiveness! Ravi Zacharias says, “Jesus Christ did not come to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive.”
