Greg, John, and Pat discuss a video called “Look Up” which addresses the social media craze that has left a majority of people addicted to their smart phones all the while missing opportunities to experience real life. Many people today are addicted to virtual things instead of reality. Today we have bought into a narrative that allows our life not only to be documented but tracked as well. There are no true relationships anymore and many have settled to believe that because their social media page says they have “x” number of friends that those “friends” are real. The video and poem are done so creatively and make such a poignant point. We have dumbed down our lives so that we can have smart phones and perceive connectivity in our hands. Many people today are totally disconnected from real relationships. Most don’t have their own wisdom or knowledge and most of what they know came from a piece of technology that was connected to the internet. The church is no different and is experiencing the loss of marriage and family relationships. They caution us to be in charge of technology. Don’t submit to technology, make technology submit to you. Life is very short, unplug and look up and pursue meaningful relationships and truly begin to experience a real life not one that is made up of virtual connections.
STOP Human Trafficking at the World Cup in Brazil
Greg, John, and Pat discuss the importance of educating people on human trafficking and the need for it to be stopped. They continue to discuss how Brazil will host the 2014 world cup and with that are expecting approximately half a million visitors to the country. Unfortunately soccer is not the only thing they are coming for. It is reported that websites are offering airline and world cup tickets in addition are making available sex from a child or woman who is being trafficked. At the moment there are nearly 1 million children and women that are being trafficked around the world. In hopes of stopping the abuse of any trafficked victims at this year’s World Cup in Brazil a documentary film is being produced by Operation Blessing to educate people of this plight. They continue to encourage us to do all that we can to stop this evil. They encourage us to pray, give financially and work with ministries and organizations like Exodus Cry and Operation Underground Railroad as these organizations are helping to free women and children that are being used as sex slaves. Much is being done to put an end to this atrocity but they continue to urge us to be vigilant and not forget those who are still in captivity.
Father Arrested For Exercising his First Amendment Right- Expressing His Disapproval of A Racy Novel Given to His Daughter at School.
Greg, John, and Pat discuss how a father is arrested for exercising his first amendment right when he expressed his disapproval to the school board for approving a racy novel being read by his 14 year old daughter. Allegedly the father had surpassed his two minutes and continued to speak and he was arrested. The father’s first amendment rights were violated. He is entitled to free speech. The father’s alleged main concern was that the school should have notified the parents first before making the book mandatory reading. His daughter was reading the book for a week before he was aware of the contents. The truth is that there is a philosophy that is being promulgated that the school system knows best instead of the parents of the children. They further discuss that when we turn back to God’s word then maybe we can get our constitution back. As American citizens we have rights and to see a father’s rights being violated just because someone allegedly felt his time was up is just flat out wrong.
