Dr. Bernice King, Daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. says She is Profoundly Responsible for Carrying Father’s Legacy to the next Phase: So Should We

by

LISTEN NOW! From the moments of Martin Luther King, Jr’s life, significant impacts for change and freedom rang true through his voice of truth and love. Since that time, there have been those that have talked about Dr. King’s life and referred to his actions, sometimes changing what Dr. King had meant in the first place. Who would know better than his own daughter, CEO of the King Center, Bernice King?

Bernice King led a delegation from the King Center in response to the actions that were taking place in Ferguson, Missouri. In her response, she speaks of non-violence and love. “Non-violence is a way of life in courageous people. Non-violence seeks to win friendship and understanding. Non-violence seeks to defeat injustice and not people. Non-violence chooses love instead of hate.” Bernice calls this “nonviolence 365”. She continues to share an insightful perspective about what is known as the “Civil Rights Movement”, but also shares its true identity. “The movement that was led by my father was a spiritual movement. It wasn’t a Civil Rights Movement. It impacted Civil Rights. But, it was a spiritual movement and its assignment was to Civil Rights.” Bernice continues to share her own personal stories of events within the King family that the public eye may not of seen. Hear these impactful words from Bernice herself, and so much more. Greg and John shared in this segment. WATCH FULL PROGRAM!

SIX PRINCIPLES OF NONVIOLENCE

Fundamental tenets of Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence described in his first book, Stride Toward Freedom. The six principles include:

PRINCIPLE ONE: Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people.

It is active nonviolent resistance to evil.

It is aggressive spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

PRINCIPLE TWO: Nonviolence seeks to win friendship and understanding.

The end result of nonviolence is redemption and reconciliation.

The purpose of nonviolence is the creation of the Beloved Community.

PRINCIPLE THREE: Nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice not people.
Nonviolence recognizes that evildoers are also victims and are not evil people.
The nonviolent resister seeks to defeat evil not people.

PRINCIPLE FOUR: Nonviolence holds that suffering can educate and transform.
Nonviolence accepts suffering without retaliation.
Unearned suffering is redemptive and has tremendous educational and transforming possibilities.

PRINCIPLE FIVE: Nonviolence chooses love instead of hate.

Nonviolence resists violence of the spirit as well as the body.
Nonviolent love is spontaneous, unmotivated, unselfish and creative.

PRINCIPLE SIX: Nonviolence believes that the universe is on the side of justice.

The nonviolent resister has deep faith that justice will eventually win.
Nonviolence believes that God is a God of justice.
