It is so important to have an elected leader that not only understands the importance of the U.S. Constitution, but also understands the importance of defending the U.S. Constitution. Every elected leader declares an oath that they will defend and support our U.S. Constitution. President Trump understands this and expresses this concern when he recently spoke before the NRA. Within the Constitution is the Second Amendment that speaks of, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Some may ask how the Bible would respond to this. When Jesus was speaking to His disciples in Luke 22, He reminded them of how they lacked nothing when they were with Him. He also told them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one”. A sword was the weapon of that day. It’s not wrong to be armed, but if one decides to do so, we must do so legally, abiding by the laws that have been established.
The President wasted no time in expressing his gratitude for the support of the NRA as he stood before the large crowd. The scene reminisced of a reality only a few months ago when he spoke to them asking for their support for his Presidential nomination. As he addresses them again, this time as President, the moment marks an event than hasn’t been done since 1983 when President Ronald Reagan addressed the NRA. But, he continues to point out the additional significance of his speech during his campaign. “Only one candidate in the general election came to speak to you, and that candidate is now the President of the United States standing before you again.” As he continues to point out, a few more candidates may understand the importance of this audience four years from now.
As the President continues to thank the supporters of the NRA for their support of his nomination, he returns the favor by also recognizing the many veterans in the audience and supporting them, as well as the many active duty service men and women fighting our nation’s battles around the world. In the first 100 days of his Presidency, amazing differences are being seen, and many are noticing the differences within the V.A. “We are working really hard at the V.A., and you’re gonna see it; and you’re already seeing it, and it’s my honor.” He continues to talk about the very freedoms that our service men and women are fighting for. “The NRA protects, in our capitals in our legislative houses, the freedoms that our service members have won for us on those incredible battlefields; and it’s been a tough fight for those who would go so far as to ban private gun ownership entirely”.
As the President reminds those present, those who are gun owners in America felt an overwhelming push towards anti-gun laws in America over the last 8 years. “We have news that you’ve been waiting for, for a long time. The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end.” He continues to describe how his leadership is quite different. “You have a true friend and champion in the White House. No longer will federal agencies be coming after law abiding gun owners. No longer will the government being trying to undermine your rights, and your freedoms as Americans.”
The President continues to talk about the amazing accomplishments that his administration has been able to carry out in these first 100 days. Just as he promised on his campaign trail, he nominated a new Supreme Court Justice to fill the vacancy of the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Justice Neil Gorsuch now sits firmly in the Supreme Court. It’s quite a noteworthy achievement to appoint a Supreme Court Justice within the first 100 days of your Presidency. “For the first time in the modern political era, we have confirmed a new justice in the first 100 days. The last time that happened was 136 years ago in 1881.”
As he details the tremendous decisions and accomplishments that have been done in the beginning of his administration, he also shares the decisions that were carried out in the final hours of the previous administration. “On their last full day in office, the previous administration issued an 11th hour rule to restrict the use of lead ammunition on certain federal lands.” That ruling didn’t last long. He continues, “On his first day of Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke eliminated the previous administration’s ammunition ban.”
The President turned his attention to America’s Southern border and the important appointments of Jeff Sessions as the Attorney General, and John Kelly as the Director of Homeland Security. Since the beginning of his presidency, some amazing responses have happened. “We’ve already seen a 73% decrease, never happened before, in illegal immigration on the Southern border since my election. 73%!” He reminds everyone that his plans to build a wall are still in place even though these statistics are happening. People are noticing the new leadership in America.
“And the world is getting the message. They know that our border is no longer open to illegal immigration and if they try to break in, you’ll be caught and you’ll be returned to your home.” The President understands the urgent subject of safety and security in America regarding our borders. He continues, “You’re not staying any longer. And if you keep coming back illegally after deportation, you will be arrested, prosecuted, and you will be put behind bars. Otherwise, it will never end.” Amidst the continual security funding in America and around the world, little change has been seen. “We spend billions and billions of dollars on security all over the world, but then we allow Radical Islamic terrorists to enter right through our front door. That’s not going to happen anymore.”
It is so exciting to see our President standing up for the Constitution and defending the values held within it, as well as those who legally practice what the Constitution affords us. Be encouraged as you are reminded what the Second Amendment allows, what has been carried out through the Trump Administration since he has begun his Presidency, and so much more.
