Running For The Prize
Greg, John, and Pat discuss how we need to run the race to win the prize. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 9:24 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” They continue to discuss how when athletes compete for their athletic teams they go under strict training to perform at their best. They just don’t go out on the field and play that’s what fans do. Athletes spend long hours and many weeks preparing, training, learning, and practicing before they actually take the field for a brief moment. All this preparation is to win the prize. They encourage us to live our lives before the Lord the same way. Run in such a way to win the prize. Paul said that he beats his body as to now disqualify himself from the prize. They further discuss the importance of running and playing in such a way that we receive a crown. They challenge us not to live for this life but to live for the one to come and to have a crown that we would want to lay at Jesus’ feet.
Revelation 4:10-11“The twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they were created and have their being.”
Avoiding Hardships can result in missing your Destiny
Steve, John and Pat discuss from John Bevier’s book The Bait of Satan about how avoiding hardships can result in missing our destiny. Steve shares an account that John shares in his book about a time that John and his wife were going through some hardships at the fellowship they were a part of and how a friend was feeding into his discomfort and encouraging John to move on. They continue to share how God has a plan for our lives and so does Satan. Satan’s plan is to try to stop God’s plan for your life. Just because your flesh is not satisfied or things are not going the way you thought they should go it doesn’t mean that it’s not God. In fact often times God wants to bring us into a new season in our lives but we won’t be able to survive the new season without God working something out and in us. Allow God to work on you. He is the potter and you are the clay; refuse to get off the potter’s wheel and allow God to shape you into a vessel he can use for His glory.
