As parents we do our best to get a good education for our children and a safe school for them to go to. Many parents enter a lottery system hoping to win a place for their children to be placed into a charter school. At the same time people who are a part of the teacher’s union have protested at a charter school chanting, “DON’T BE FOOLED! ABORT CHARTER SCHOOLS!” Bob Chanin who was previously the General Counsel for the National Education Association (NEA) spoke about the true motive behind the NEA when he shared at the 2009 NEA General Assembly. “NEA and its affiliates are such effective advocates. Despite what some among us would like to believe, it is not because of our creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not because we care about children and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power and we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them, the unions that could protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees.” As he proclaims this, applause erupts from the assembly as he openly states that it is not about our children!
An important fact to remember is that not every teacher is a part of the teacher’s union and there are great teachers that love and care about our children. As believers we don’t need a union to represent us we can look to Jesus as our advocate. Our children need to be taught the right way to go and we are one generation away from being a pagan nation! “Train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart” Thank God for Betsy Devos, Secretary of Education, who is working hard to change America’s education system. She is an answer to prayer and we need to keep praying for her as she is working on making many great changes. Make sure to listen or watch the full segment!
