Five Things We Will Learn

  • Why Jesus’ final command in Matthew 28 is not optional—but the foundation of following Him
  • The difference between cultural Christianity and true discipleship
  • How obedience to Jesus is the clearest expression of love for Him
  • Why fear keeps many from living out their faith—and how to overcome it
  • What it practically looks like to begin walking in The Commands of Jesus today

A Wake-Up Call: Jesus Didn’t Give Suggestions—He Gave Commands

It’s amazing how often people talk about the Ten Commandments, yet couldn’t name them if asked. In the same way, many talk about Jesus—but very few actually know what He commanded.

Some think Jesus came to give helpful teachings, inspiring talks, or systems for better living. Others assume Christianity is about buildings, programs, or repeated moments of “getting saved.”

But when you actually read the Bible—especially the red letters—you quickly realize something shocking:

Jesus gave commands.

And His final words before returning to the Father were not casual—they were decisive.

“Go and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20, NIV)

This is not a suggestion. It’s not a ministry option. It’s the assignment.

And here’s what makes it even more real:

He promised He would be with us as we do it.

So the question becomes—if He told us to do it, and He’s with us to do it… why aren’t more people doing it?

The Missing Piece: Obedience Is Love

One of the biggest paradigm shifts is realizing this simple truth:

Love for Jesus is not just something we say—it’s something we do.

Jesus said clearly:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

That means obedience is not legalism. It’s not performance.

It’s love.

Many people say, “God is love,” and that is absolutely true. But we often disconnect love from obedience. Yet Jesus never did.

He only said what the Father told Him to say.
He only did what the Father told Him to do.

And then He told us:

“Follow me.”

That changes everything.

Cultural Christianity vs. True Discipleship

We’ve built systems, structures, and environments that often look like Christianity—but don’t actually reflect what Jesus commanded.

It’s possible to:

  • Attend services
  • Listen to messages
  • Be inspired weekly

…and still not be a disciple.

Jesus never said:
“Go and make church attenders.”

He said:
“Go and make disciples.”

A disciple doesn’t just listen.
A disciple follows, imitates, and obeys.

That’s why this journey through The Commands of Jesus is so powerful—it brings us back to what is real, simple, and biblical.

The Reality of Fear—and the Call to Move Anyway

One of the biggest barriers to obedience is fear.

Fear of:

  • Rejection
  • What people will think
  • Losing comfort or control

But here’s the truth:

Fear will always be present—but it does not have to control you.

Faith is not the absence of fear.
Faith is moving forward despite fear.

Jesus made it clear:
If we are ashamed of Him before others, He will be ashamed of us before the Father.

That’s not meant to condemn—it’s meant to wake us up.

Because what we’ve been given is too real, too powerful, and too important to stay silent.

Everyone Is Sharing Something—Why Not Jesus?

Think about it.

People talk about:

  • Their favorite team
  • A movie they just watched
  • A product they love
  • A deal they found

But when it comes to Jesus—many stay quiet.

Why?

Because there is resistance.

Because there is opposition.

Because it matters.

Jesus didn’t just improve life—
He defeated death, hell, and the grave.

If we truly believe that, it changes what we say—and how we live.
