Reset 2016: 1 Million People on the National Mall to Cry Out to God for an Awakening – July 7, 2016

LISTEN NOW! Looking at the present climate of America it is easy to recognize that what we are currently doing isn’t working and the road that we are on is not the direction that we want to be heading. Something needs to change. Others have responded, holding events throughout America to cry out to God in repentance, humility, and prayer. There is still another on the horizon that is sure to bless and encourage you. As Nick Hall shares, Reset 2016 will be on July 16, 2016, calling one million young people to The National Mall “to stand for Jesus in historic unity, prayer, worship, and a call for catalytic change.”

Francis Chan expresses a powerful perspective regarding this upcoming RESET 2016 event, “That’s exactly what The Church needs right now desperately, is to just say, ‘let’s just start all over, let’s open up this book again. What should The Church look like? What should a believer look like?” He continues, “Look what this books says. Look at what it actually says. I think we got off here. I think we started heading down this road, let’s start over. Let’s do this thing right.”

Looking solely at the present day discouraging climate of our nation would be too small of a focus. By looking at what was taking place in our nation before previous Great Awakenings gives us great hope to where we are and what God can do in the very situations that we are facing today. Before Jonathan Edwards was used as a catalyst to bring about the First Great Awakening, what was taking place in America paints a clear picture of the darkness that existed in the land.

In a reenactment, Timothy Dwight, President of Yale and grandson of Jonathan Edwards, shares about the rebellion and disdain that was taking place in America in the 1700’s. In fact, it was upon the college campuses where it was the most prevalent. “At Princeton, only 5 members could be found that were not part of the filthy speech move. At Williams college they held a mock communion service. Students from New Jersey stole a Bible from a local church and burned it in the streets. And at Harvard, they took a poll and not one believer could be found.” It was in this moral climate that the First Great Awakening began to burn across America.

It was during the Second Great Awakening when another historic rise in response to the Gospel took place. “By 1834, the total annual income from all benevolent societies rivaled the budget of the entire Federal Government.” Things are not over just because darkness is sweeping the land. By looking at the history of our nation, by looking at the many who are presently crying out to God for a mighty move of His Spirit, we can see clearly that we are on the precipice of another massive move of God.
