A devout Muslim encounters Jesus through a series of dreams. His name is Nabeel Qureshi, and before his salvation, he prayed to Allah five times a day. He also had the Quran memorized in Arabic and English, and his goal was to prove Islam as the true faith and especially to Christians. We must remember that there is 1.6 billion Muslims on the earth and not all are radicalized. Jesus died for all of us and we should be encouraged to pray for every soul in the world to be saved.
Nabeel was confronted with the reality that Islam was not a religion of peace when on September 11, 2001, America was attacked by terrorists and people were murdered in the name of Allah. “It was really something I had to wrestle with because at this point all the talk about Islam being a religion of peace was being confronted with a very vivid visual picture of people being murdered in the name of Allah.”
“When I challenge them (Christians) on the reliability of the Bible or when I challenge them the deity of Christ or the crucifixion. When I challenge them on the Trinity, they would have no answer. They would make a very quick retreat into the realm of faith.” He would hear from Christians that they only believe on faith his thoughts on this was that they were using the word faith how he uses the word ignorance.
“I have to answer for myself what is Islam really? Is it what I have been taught? Is it what these guys (Christians) are proclaiming? Of course, I was sure it was what I had been taught, it was peaceful. But then how do I explain what has been happening on the T.V.?”
Nabeel struggled with this for a while not understanding how Islam terrorists murdered thousands of people. In this time of struggle and confusion, he met a Christian named David. He could defend his faith through logic and reason like Nabeel. “David was able to give me reasons to believe the Bible. Reasons that the Bible hasn’t been changed, it’s the inspired word of God…that the 66 books in the Bible are actually what should be in the Bible. No other book should be in that collection.”
These men became friends, and through several years they debated about their beliefs. David would point out flaws in Nabeel’s reasons for his faith in Allah and pointed out the violence that was in the history of Islam with Muhammed. Through these debates, Nabeel came to realize that Jesus was truly the Son of God.
“The biggest blasphemy in Islam is to worship anything other than Allah. If there is a chance that Islam is false, that’s a crisis. That’s going to shake my world, and it did. And that’s what drove me to my knees, and that’s when I began to ask God who are you?” He asked God to show him through a dream who He is. God gave him three dreams!
Confronted with the reality that all his beliefs had been shaken, Nabeel was simply broken. In his own words, “It was a rude awakening that there isn’t a single verse in the Quran designed to comfort a hurting man. Not one.” It was here that Nabeel’s life was forever changed when he found the verse he was looking for, in the Bible. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
“I just fell in love with the Bible at that moment. It was as if God had written those words specifically for me. He knew 2,000 years ago that I was going to need comfort in this moment and He knew that I would go to Matthew, so He put that verse in Matthew for me. Okay, this is real, this is the Word of God, this faith is where the truth is found. And that’s when I ultimately accepted Christ by reading the Bible.”
Nabeel wrote a book about his journey to Jesus, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus and is involved in ministry. His testimony is so encouraging! Be challenged to look at the Middle East with the eyes of Jesus and know that He wants all to be saved. As a believer, we are called to make disciples of all nations! When we have a relationship with Jesus and spend time with Him, abide with Him daily, then we will know the Word of God and be able to speak to someone like Nabeel. Because we know Jesus and His Word, we will be able to confront the lies of other religions and show them the truth of who Jesus is. We have a free abiding plan for you that you can get today at iAbide and get a plan of how to spend time daily with Jesus. Also, we offer a discipleship journey on Emmaus Road which you can sign up for yourself and sign others up for the journey as well. We want to hear from you! You can write to us at [email protected].
