Home » The Blessing: Living Beyond the Curse Through Christ, Pastor John Kilpatrick

Five Things We Will Learn

  1. The contrast between the curse from the first birth and the blessing from the second birth.
  2. How Jesus reversed the curse at Calvary to release divine blessing.
  3. The spiritual roles of demons and angels in curse versus blessing.
  4. Why believers are empowered to prosper without painful toil.
  5. The importance and enduring power of the spoken blessing of Jesus.

Pastor John Kilpatrick opens with two foundational scriptures: Proverbs 10:22 and Deuteronomy 28:8. These verses reveal that it is not merely God who makes one rich—but the blessing of the Lord itself. This blessing adds no sorrow with it. Deuteronomy promises that God will command the blessing upon us—not just offer it, but command it, activating it over our lives and our work.

The Fall and the Curse

Before understanding the power of the blessing, Pastor Kilpatrick walks through the fall of man. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve enjoyed ease, fruitfulness, and communion with God. But their sin ushered in a devastating curse. Toil, sorrow, disease, and death entered. Thorns and thistles became the new norm, and the ground was cursed.

Even animals were affected—they once communicated, but now growled and devoured. The very heavens were defiled and became spiritual highways for demonic traffic. Humanity was born under a curse, inheriting death and dysfunction through the first birth.

NOTES FROM MESSAGE

Curses and Demonic Oversight

Pastor Kilpatrick explains that curses operate under demonic oversight. These spiritual forces are charged with carrying out generational curses—from inherited diseases to fears, failures, and dysfunctions. Curses travel through bloodlines unless broken.

But God provided a way out.

Jesus at Calvary: Breaking the Curse

In a powerful moment of revelation, Pastor Kilpatrick shares what the Holy Spirit spoke to him: “Due to your first birth, curses travel. But due to your second birth—being born again—blessings travel.”

Jesus’ death wasn’t just to forgive sin—it was to reverse the curse. The blood of Jesus opened the door to blessing. Calvary made way for a new family line—one not cursed, but blessed.

Angels and the Administration of Blessing

Just as demons implement curses under the first birth, God’s angels implement blessings under the second birth. Once born again, we are no longer bound by inherited bondage but are recipients of divine blessing. Angels now enforce God’s promises over our lives.

Abraham: The Prototype of Blessing

God’s covenant with Abraham is foundational. Genesis 12 reveals God’s intention: “I will bless you… and in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Galatians 3 confirms this: through faith in Christ, we become children of Abraham. The same blessing God gave Abraham is now ours through Jesus.

This includes peace, provision, favor, influence, and abundance—not just wealth in money, but abundance in every area of need.

Toil vs. Blessing

When Peter told Jesus, “We have toiled all night,” it reflected the mindset of the curse. But Jesus demonstrated that in the Kingdom, blessings come not through toil, but through obedience and faith.

Peter’s net-breaking, boat-sinking catch of fish was proof: you can prosper without toil under the blessing of Christ.

Blessings Travel Through Believers

The blessing isn’t limited to perfect people. It flows through believers. Even Jacob—flawed and scheming—carried the blessing. His presence caused Laban’s household to prosper. In the same way, our lives can bring blessing to workplaces, families, and communities—not because we’re perfect, but because we’re redeemed.

Jesus’ Final Act: A Blessing

When Jesus ascended to heaven, He didn’t preach or prophesy. His final act was to lift His nail-scarred hands and bless. His final word over His followers was not judgment, but blessing. He had broken the curse, and now He released the blessing.

Your Choice: Curse or Blessing

Everyone is born once, but not all are born again. The first birth brings curse by default. The second birth brings blessing by choice. You must choose the blessing—choose Christ. The curse is canceled, but the blessing must be received.
