Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a Christian minister and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, which his daughter called “his assignment” as a minister. Things were so tragic till he along with many others in America took a stand against the unequal treatment of American citizens based on the color of their sin; race. It looked like everything was moving in the right direction as God honored his leadership by shifting the nation in a direction which God intended for it to be where ‘all people, who are created by God, are treated equal under the law’. Dr. King gave amazing speeches of freedom and called out to the silent Americans to stand up for what is right and they responded and things began to turn. He spoke continually about we, as brothers and sisters (American Citizens) should walk hand in hand as brothers; equal under the law and under God’s eyes. His passion, his message, his leadership was tragically stopped when an assassin tragically killed him in the middle of preparing for his next stand for freedom at a Memphis Tennessee hotel balcony in April 1968. The nation mourned and still mourns this great loss of Dr. King. Many since have taken up the leadership and continued moving forward towards what Dr. King said in his speech he saw when he was at the mountain top…Americans walking together in unity; hand in hand.
It was Evil Presley, on his come back tour, shared a song that he had written that demonstrated not only the cry of his heart, but the hearts of many American, “IF I CAN DREAM.” Ron Lentine recently moved from being a Pastor for 23 years at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida into a full-time ministry with Lentine Outreach Ministries where he is fostering a unity movement, Unify in Christ, that brings unity to believers no matter their denomination or race. He shares in this program how America’s last hope is to walk in unity again and he shares the words of the song Elvis Presley sang in If I Can Dream.
If I Can Dream
Walter Earl Brown
There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true
oh why
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won’t that sun appear
We’re lost in a cloud
With too much rain
We’re trapped in a world
That’s troubled with pain
But as long as a man
Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there’s a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there’s a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk
While I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now
Oh yeah
