Loving God, Loving Others and Leading Others to do the Same

Home » Uganda: Evangelism, Power, Healing, and Unity Advancing the Kingdom of God

Art Thomas, founder and leader of Roots Church Network, shares his recent journey to Uganda, where he helped launch City Quake events across East Africa. Developed by Tom Ruotolo—who helped launch ministries like Todd White’s Power and Love—City Quake brings together 3–6 churches in a region for hands-on evangelism. Participants are trained in power evangelism, released to the streets to minister, then gather again to share testimonies of healing, salvation, and transformation.

Art helped lead two four-day events in Lira and Gulu, training 25 African pastors. Over 300 people came to Christ during street ministry, with numerous miraculous healings following the preaching of the Gospel.

Miracles in the Streets of Uganda

The testimonies that emerged were powerful and unforgettable. In one case, a girl dying in a hospital was healed after receiving Christ. Her breathing stabilized, her pain disappeared, and she stood on her own. Another man, following a prophetic dream, led six men to Christ at a riverside gathering. Teenagers were transformed after a team washed their shoes in an act of humble love. A paralyzed woman regained full use of her body and sight in her left eye. X-rays confirmed healing in another woman who had suffered from internal cysts and lung and heart issues.

These weren’t isolated miracles—they were part of a wave of faith and power moving through the streets of Uganda, initiated by everyday believers.

Forgiveness in a Wounded Land

In Lira—the epicenter of Joseph Kony’s horrific rebellion—Art led a session on forgiveness. When asked who had lost someone to Kony’s army, a third of the room raised their hands. When asked who needed to forgive, nearly everyone responded. A prayer of forgiveness brought what Art described as “tangible freedom” to the room. The spiritual release opened hearts to healing and renewed connection.

Bold Faith Amid Real Persecution

In Gulu, Art asked how many had been threatened with death for their faith. A quarter of the attendees raised their hands. “They really understand what Jesus meant by ‘I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves,’” he said, contrasting it with the American context where faith costs far less.

Another testimony involved a Christian woman visiting the home of a witch doctor and leading both of his wives to Christ—an act of quiet courage and radical love.

Seeds Planted in America

Art has also begun bringing this same model of evangelistic empowerment to the United States. At a recent City Quake event stateside, multiple churches gathered and saw dozens of people engaged in two-hour outreach blocks, experiencing healing, salvation, and personal transformation. These events make evangelism accessible, inviting even those who don’t consider themselves evangelists to share God’s love boldly.

The VFN Family and Greg Lancaster Ministries supported Art Thomas’s family while he achieved significant advancements in healings, evangelism, activations, and more for the Lord. Thank you, VFN and Greg Lancaster Ministries Missions, for continually sowing into the hearts and lives of mankind for the glory of God and the advancement of His Kingdom through Jesus Christ.

Greg Lancaster responded with testimony of his own, recounting how God told them to organize Baptize Pensacola just 12 days before it launched. Over 200 people responded from across the country. “We went from zero to launch in twelve days,” Greg said. “God showed up. People got saved.  It was powerful.”

Five Things We Learned

  1. City Quake ignites real, street-level evangelism by training and activating local churches through practical outreach.
  2. Miracles followed the Gospel as believers laid hands on the sick and shared the message of Jesus boldly.
  3. Forgiveness is a key to freedom, especially in regions deeply wounded by past violence like Uganda.
  4. American believers can learn from the persecuted Church, whose faith costs more and produces deep spiritual fruit.
  5. Unity among churches is crucial for effective outreach—when believers collaborate, cities are shaken.
