LISTEN NOW! Greg, John, and Pat discuss in this rethinking church moment how it’s time for the church to get in the game and not just be hearers only of God’s word but to become doers. They continue to challenge us by encouraging us to ask ourselves the question how do you identify the church? Do you identify it as a building, an organization, as a board of directors, as a denomination, or do you identify it as family? They remind us that it is okay to question what we have been doing, since according to George Barna we made it all up. God has called us to be family. The reason we default and act institutionalized is because it’s painful and it hurts to be family. However, if we become a healthy family, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters in the Lord, it will cause us not to sin against the family because we don’t want to hurt them. Jesus said in John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Come out from amongst them to be the family of God. Jesus said “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice” Luke 8:21.
